EVERY YEAR, THE people of Stradbally, Co Laois have to put up with festival-goers trekking through the town with their muddy wellies and cries of “ALAN! ALAN!”
Well this year, Electric Picnic is paying them back.
The organisers have donated €65,000 to help build a new football pitch in the middle of the town, featuring a running track, car park, and kids’ play area.
The pitch will primarily be used by the local national school, St Colman’s, to hold matches and activities during term time. Look at them with their big cheque!
School principal Cathal Ruane says they’re all delighted:
We have a huge tradition of sports and activities here in St Colman’s but unfortunately we cannot give our pupils the opportunities they deserve. Electric Picnic is going to make a lasting contribution here in Stradbally… We couldn’t be happier!
Ahh. Lovely.
